About RAT System

Rapid Assault Tactics — military and law enforcement training.

What is the RAT System?

The Rapid Assault Tactics (RAT) System is a comprehensive combat training programme developed by Si-Gung Paul Vunak. Originally designed for military and law enforcement applications, it has been adapted for civilian self-defence and professional security training.

RAT focuses on high-intensity, practical techniques that work under extreme pressure, combining striking, grappling and weapon defence in realistic combat scenarios.

Our UK-based training provides authentic RAT System instruction under the guidance of certified instructors, bringing this training methodology to civilian and professional students.

Philosophy

How RAT trains

Speed & efficiency

Techniques designed for rapid deployment in high-stress situations, focused on economy of motion and maximum effectiveness.

Practical application

Real-world scenarios and pressure testing make sure techniques work when it matters most — not just in controlled environments.

Mental conditioning

Training develops the mental toughness and decision-making needed for high-pressure situations.

History

From military origins to civilian application

The RAT System was developed in the mid-1980s by Si-Gung Paul Vunak for high-stress, life-or-death situations where traditional martial arts techniques often fail.

It has been used by numerous government and law enforcement agencies, proving its effectiveness in real-world applications. Its techniques are designed to work under extreme pressure, when fine motor skills are compromised and survival depends on gross motor movements and instinctive responses.

Today the RAT System continues to evolve while keeping its core principles of simplicity, effectiveness and adaptability to different threat scenarios.
